The Checkatrade Awards 2024 – Terms and Conditions

1.    Introduction

The Checkatrade Awards 2024 is organised and administered by Vetted Limited, (trading as Checkatrade) a company incorporated in England & Wales (company number 04285394) with its registered office at Building 2000, Lakeside North Harbour, Western Road, Portsmouth PO63EN (“we, us, our”).

The awards will be governed by these terms and conditions and anyone who nominates a tradesperson or attends the award ceremony, agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

2.    Eligibility Criteria

Nominee Eligibility:
Any of our members can be nominated and will be considered providing they meet the following criteria;
•    their account with us must be active;
•    they must be currently based within the UK;
•    they must not be under investigation for a complaint or had any negative reviews; and
•    they must fit the criteria for the award categories, detailed within clause 5 below.
 

Nominator Eligibility:
Customers may submit nominations for all awards. Tradespeople may nominate themselves or colleagues for the following awards only;
•    Rising Star
•    Community Hero
•    Sustainability Champion
•    Technology Champion
•    Woman in Trade Champion
 

3.    Nomination Process

Submission Guidelines: Nominations for the award categories listed within clause 4, should be submitted online via the nomination form found here.

Required Information: All nominations must include the tradespersons first name, last name, company name and either a phone number or email address, so that we can verify they are a Checkatrade member.

Multiple Nominations: Nominators can submit multiple entries.

Incomplete Entries: Incomplete nominations will be disqualified.

Deadline: All nominations must be submitted by midday on 18th October 2024.

Shortlist selection: Once the nomination process has ended, all nominations will be reviewed and we will select a shortlist of nominees. The entries will be judged on the basis of the information provided. The shortlisted tradespeople will receive an email on or before 21st  October, notifying them that they have been shortlisted and inviting them to the award ceremony.

4.    Award Categories

Trade of the Year 2024 - Recognises overall excellence, exemplary skills and commitment to quality and service.

Builder of the Year 2024 - Awards quality and service, and commitment to best practices.
 
Electrician of the Year 2024 - Acknowledges the best electrician with exemplary service in electrical installations and safety standards.

Roofer of the Year 2024 - Awards exceptional craftmanship and customer satisfaction of roofing projects.

Painter & Decorator of the Year 2024 - Recognises skills, artistic excellence and customer satisfaction.

Plumber of the Year 2024 - Honours excellence in plumbing services and customer service.

Rising Star - Recognises an individual or business who show exceptional potential and talent in their early trade career.

Community Hero - Recognises an individual or business who have made a significant positive impact to their local community through acts of kindness, leadership, or service.

Sustainability Champion - Awards an individual or company who have made exceptional contributions to promoting and advancing sustainability.

Technology Champion - Recognises individual or company who use technology to drive change, solve complex problems, and advance the industry.  

Woman in Trade Champion - Recognises and celebrates the professional achievements, Industry Contribution and Leadership and Influence of woman within the trade industry.  
We reserve the right to add, merge, or withdraw any of the above award categories at any time.

5.    Judging

The shortlist of nominees will be reviewed by the judging panel and a winner for each award category will be selected by majority vote and announced at the award ceremony.

Judging Panel:
The Judging Panel will be made up of a selection of our Senior Leadership team and award sponsors. For a list of the judges please see here.

We reserve the right to change the judging panel at any time prior to the award ceremony.

Judging Criteria:

Each award will be reviewed against a standard Judging Criteria, please see details here.

The decision of the judging panel will be final and we will not enter into any correspondence or discussion with any nominees or nominators, nor will we accept any submissions, representations or appeals regarding the decisions.

We reserve the right to disqualify a nomination that we consider, in our sole discretion, to be non-compliant.

6. Prizes

The winner of each award will receive recognition at the awards ceremony and a trophy presented at the awards ceremony. The winners will also receive publicity via our marketing channels, blog pages and their details will be included within the awards webpage. They will also receive a digital badge that can be added to their Checkatrade profile highlighting that they are an award winner.

Awards or prizes cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash.

7. Checkatrade Award Ceremony

All shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony in London on 7th November 2024 (details to be communicated nearer the time), where the winners of each award will be announced.

All shortlisted nominees will receive one ticket to attend the award ceremony, this ticket will be complimentary, and will include a drinks reception and a pre-set 3 course meal with drinks.

If the nominee would like to bring additional guests, they are welcome to do so (up to a maximum of 4 guests) and the additional guests will be charged £150 per person, this payment will be non-refundable, however we will accept substitutes.

To purchase additional tickets, please email [email protected], we will then confirm via email and send an invoice for the full price of your ticket, the fees contained within the invoice must be paid immediately upon receipt.

By participating in the awards ceremony, all attendees agree to abide by these terms and conditions.

Unless otherwise agreed by us in advance and in writing, all attendees must be at least 18 years of age on the date of the awards ceremony.

Travel and Accommodation:
Attendees will be solely responsible for any travel and accommodation expenses. We will not be liable for any additional costs incurred, nor will we be responsible for any inability to attend the awards ceremony due to any transport failure.

If an attendee uses the car parking facilities at the venue, they do so entirely at their own risk. We do not accept any responsibility for any loss and/or damage resulting from their use of such car parking facilities. Car parking spaces are not guaranteed, and are on a first come, first served basis. 
 
Venue:
Attendees must comply with the rules and regulations governing the venue including the dress code and rules of entry.

If an attendee brings any property to the venue, they do so at their own risk. We are not responsible for any loss and/or damage to such property.

Attendees are responsible for ensuring their own safety and security whilst attending the awards ceremony.

If there are any specific requirements due to a dietary requirement, disability, food allergies or for any other reason, please email us at [email protected] as soon as possible  and, in any event, before 24th October 2024. If we are notified later then this date it may not be possible to accommodate that specific requirement.

We reserve the right to refuse admission to any attendee whom we consider in our absolute discretion to be unsuitable for admission to the awards ceremony or subsequently remove such person after the start of the awards ceremony. In such circumstances, we will not refund any prepaid fees and if the attendee is a shortlisted nominee they will no longer be eligible for an award.

8.    Changes and Cancellations

We reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
We reserve the right to cancel, postpone or move the awards ceremony to another date, venue or change any other aspect of the award’s ceremony at our discretion for any reason, without any liability.

If an attendee can no longer attend the award ceremony, subject to our approval, they will need to notify us via email to [email protected] with the details of a representative who is attending on their behalf.  
 
If the shortlisted nominee or their representative do not attend the awards ceremony, the shortlisted nominee will forfeit their nomination and will not be eligible for an award.
Purchased tickets are non-refundable and under no circumstances may any ticket be resold.

9.    Revocation of Awards

We reserve the right to revoke any award given, at any time, should the tradesperson or their company be suspected or found to have engaged in any type of unethical, fraudulent, or other conduct that violates our membership terms, the Checkatrade standards or these terms and conditions.

Upon revocation, the tradesperson agrees to return the award, any associated benefits, and cease all use of the digital badge.

The tradesperson will not be entitled to any reimbursement or compensation as a result of such revocation.

10.    Use of Personal Data

Any personal information that we receive under and/or in connection with these terms and conditions will be dealt with in line with our Checkatrade Privacy Notice (for customers only), Trade Privacy Notice (for tradespeople only), which explains what personal information we collect, how and why we collect, store, use and share such information.

11.    Licence

Nominators grant us an irrevocable licence to use and reproduce all content provided within the nomination form in any way whatsoever, including but not limited to, in any or all our internal and external prints, digital platforms or social media and waive all moral rights that they may have in the content.

We may, at our discretion, choose to photograph, film, broadcast or record the award ceremony.

Each attendee grants us an irrevocable, perpetual and unrestricted right to take, use, re-use, publish and republish all and any videos or pictures of the attendee and to use their name, voice, likeness, image and any contribution made to the award ceremony in any way whatsoever, including but not limited to any or all internal and external prints, digital platforms or social media.

A nominator or attendee must notify us at least 48 hours prior to the award ceremony if they do not agree to any of this paragraph by emailing [email protected].

12.    Intellectual Property

Nominators undertake to ensure that any and all material (and any and all intellectual property rights in the same) supplied in support of a nomination either belongs to them, or that they have the right to use such material and provide the same to us for all of the purposes anticipated by these terms and conditions, and hereby grant us a licence to use all material for the purposes anticipated by these terms and conditions.

We will not accept a nomination, where it has come to our attention that any material provided in support of a nomination has been plagiarised, or that our use of the material in question is in breach or potential breach of any third party intellectual property rights.

13.    Liability and Indemnity

We shall not be liable for: (i) loss of profits; (ii) loss of business; (iii) depletion of goodwill and/or similar losses; (iv) loss of anticipated savings; (v) loss of goods; (vi) loss of contract; (vii) loss of use; (viii) loss due to corruption of data or information; or (ix) any special, indirect, consequential or pure economic loss, costs, damages, charges or expenses.

Other than as expressly stated in these terms and conditions, all warranties, conditions and other terms implied by statute or common law are, to the fullest extent permitted by law, excluded.

Our maximum aggregate liability in contract, tort or otherwise shall not exceed £50.

Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or restrict our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability in respect of which it would be unlawful for us to limit or exclude.

You shall indemnify us and keep us indemnified from and against all claims, damage, losses, costs (including, without limitation, all reasonable legal costs), expenses, demands or liabilities arising out of or in connection with any breach by you of these terms and conditions.

14.    General

Term and termination: These terms and conditions shall commence on 3rd October 2024 and shall continue, unless the awards ceremony or attendance, is cancelled in accordance with clause 7, until the date upon which the awards ceremony ends when it shall terminate automatically without notice.

Third Party Rights: These terms and conditions do not give rise to any rights under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.

Force Majeure: We shall not be liable for delay in performing, or failure to perform, any of our obligations under, these terms and conditions, if such delay or failure result from events, circumstances or causes beyond our reasonable control.

Assignment: We may assign any of our rights and transfer, delegate, or subcontract any of our obligations under these terms and conditions.

Waiver: No failure or delay by us in exercising any right or remedy provided under these terms and conditions or by law shall constitute a waiver of that or any other right or remedy, nor shall it prevent or restrict our further exercise of that or any other right or remedy. No single or partial exercise of such right or remedy shall prevent or restrict our further exercise of that or any other right or remedy.

Severance: If any of these terms and conditions should be determined to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable for any reason by any court of competent jurisdiction then such term shall be severed, and the remaining terms and conditions shall survive and remain in full force and effect and continue to be binding and enforceable.

Entire agreement: These terms and conditions constitute the entire agreement and supersedes and extinguishes all previous agreements, promises, assurances, warranties, representations and understandings between them, whether written or oral, relating to its subject matter.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction: These terms and conditions and any dispute or claim arising out of in connection with it or its subject matter or formation shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales and the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction with regards to the same.
